Sir John T. GilbertOn 23 January 2012 the fifteenth annual Sir John T. Gilbert Commemorative Lecture was held at Dublin City Library and Archive, Pearse Street. City Librarian, Margaret Hayes welcomed the audience and spoke about the value of the Gilbert Library which was purchased by Dublin Corporation in 1900. Councillor Dermot Lacey, deputising for the Lord Mayor spoke of the importance of Dublin's tradition of theatre, culture and knowledge and launched Christopher Fitz-Simon's Mr J Kennedy Miller's Very Capable Company of Irish Players.

Brendan Twomey has published many books on history of Dublin including Dublin in 1707: A year in the life of the city (2009) and Smithfield and the Parish of St Paul, Dublin 1698-1750.

This lecture will be published by Dublin City Public Libraries before the end of 2012. Councillor Dermot Lacey formally launched the newly published fourteenth Sir John T. Gilbert Lecture: Christopher Fitz-Simon’s ‘Mr J. Kennedy Miller's Very Capable Company of Irish Players.'
